Italy's Coffee Culture
When I was young growing up in Long Island, New York and watching our (my Italian family side) adult family having coffee at holiday's was essentially code for "let's get around the table, have some coffee, talk, and enjoy one another". I always felt that this time was special and the place during these short holiday times that I wanted to be a part of. However, later on in my life coffee time turned into this morning fueling ritual that I normally performed alone or at an American overpriced coffee shop making semi-superficial conversation.
In hind sight it all makes perfect sense why coffee for most people in Italy is a very important part of their lives. It represents time with friends and loved ones. Please ... don't get me wrong though 😀 ... I absolutely love the taste of coffee in Italy the most out of anywhere in the world, but I didn't realize the cultural impact it has until we lived in Italy. Here is what I observed;
Coffee is time spent with loved ones.
Coffee is a place for friends.
Coffee is time for self reflection.
Coffee is taste and aroma.
Coffee is approachable.
Il caffè al bar in Italia
Coffee at the Bar
Most bars in Italy are coffee bars by day and actual bars by night.
Taking coffee at a bar in Italy is an amazing experience that is hard to put into words, however, I love how the aroma hits you as you walk through the front door, the calm of standing at the bar taking a coffee, and savoring the one of a kind taste of a caffè italiano. I always find enjoyment listening to the song-sounding italian conversations being had around me.
Il caffè a casa
Coffee at home
The most common way people in Italy make coffee at home is with a Moka pot. I love the creamy and smooth taste it creates. taste it creates.

Sant' Eustachio il Caffè
Sant' Eustachio il Caffè is right between Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. We absolutely love their coffee especially the Gran Caffè that has their signature crema topping. Stop in and see Fabio - He is the best!
Bar Amore di Zucca Fabio is right next to Piazza Orologio and is making coffee for locals and tourists alike as Bar Amore is right next to the famous Leonardo DiVinici Italian School. This family run coffee bar also has mouth watering sandwiches for lunch.
